When draining a radiator with an old brass drain cock
you can control the coolant flow by placing a 90-degree spark plug boot over the collar of the drain cock. This will allow you to direct the flow straight down to the drain bucket and not the floor. Or, you can attach a hose to the drain cock and run it directly into the bucket.
